Why I Love Being a Creative

And why you should too.
When I was 14 someone asked me: "What do you want to be when you grow up?". At that time I couldn't say for  sure the path I would take, but my response was: "Something in music or art". One thing I know for sure at 14 was that I was a creative. Art in all its forms was everything to me, the thing I loved above anything else. Music, painting, design, fashion, culinary arts, these were the things that appealed to my senses and defined my choices from then.
Of all the gifts I was given, I treasure my creativity the most. I treasure the introspection, the ability to function independently, the eagerness with which I search for a solution to a problem, the unconventionality, the idiosyncrasies and oddities that often mark a creative personality, the fearless unwillingness to accept or conform to the status quo or expected way of being.
I treasure the creation process and its end results, the ability to see beauty or pain in everyday things, the passion for storytelling in every creative work, the avenues for expression and release of my innermost thoughts and feelings.
I treasure the ability to understand the creative works of others, the heightened appreciation for talent and skill, the opportunities to cooperate with other creatives to achieve a common goal or advance a shared ideal, and the fun and outrageously gifted people I meet along the way.
I am glad, above everything else to be a creative. I am grateful for this gift. Embrace your creativity, I embrace mine.
